The properties of Elut C8 are very similar to C18, but due to its shorter carbon chain and corresponding lower carbon loading, C8 has weaker retention of non-polar compounds. When the analyte remains too strong on C18 to be effectively eluted, C8 is an ideal alternative to C18. C8 has less coverage on the surface of silicone, so the potential polarity interaction between C8 and the analyte is slightly higher than C18. But these polar interactions are not the main characteristics of C8.
