What is a probe
People usually associate probe measurement with contact probes used for dimension measurement (measurement) on coordinate measuring machines.
The first use of contact probes was to measure the complex dimensions of the Rolls Royce Olympus engine carried by the Concorde aircraft to ensure quality.
In fact, the probe is a carefully designed switch that generates a trigger signal when it touches the surface of the workpiece, providing accurate and reproducible geometric data. Collecting and querying this data throughout the entire production process helps ensure the consistency of the workpiece.
Accurate - only slightly deviating or within an acceptable range of the standard.
Accurate (reproducible) - Accurate or correct in terms of performance, execution, or quantity.
Mechanical resistance probe
The mechanical resistance probe adopts a spring loaded mechanical installation method of rod and ball, with a positioning probe holder and excellent repeatability.
There is a resistor in the circuit. The external force borne by the measuring needle increases, and the resistance also increases until it reaches the trigger value and generates a trigger signal.
performance
1 µ m 2 σ repeatability derived from basic mechanical resistance electrical switches
• Complete specifications and wireless transmission options
Compliant with industry standards, sturdy, durable, and fully functional
RENGAGE ™ Strain gauge probe
The strain gauge probe retains the mechanical installation method of the mechanical resistance probe, but uses a series of strain gauges to measure the contact force on the probe and generate a trigger signal.
performance
Excellent 0.25 µ m 2 σ repeatability
Submicron level 2D and 3D pre travel changes
The solid-state sensing function enhances the durability of the probe and extends its service life
• Active false triggering of filtering
• Can quickly perform multi axis reorientation
• Suitable for long measuring needles

The trigger type probes on CNC machining centers and CNC lathes can be used to identify and set workpieces, measure features in sequence for adaptive machining, and confirm the dimensions of finished workpieces. Save time. Reduce the scrap rate. Maintain competitiveness.
The benefits of workpiece alignment
Using a probe can save expensive fixtures and avoid the inconvenience of manually aligning with a dial gauge.
Reduce machine downtime
·Automatic fixture, workpiece calibration, and rotation axis setting
·Eliminate manual setting errors
·Reduce scrap rate
·Improve productivity and flexibility in batch product size
The benefits of in machine workpiece inspection
The measuring heads installed on the spindle and tool holder can also be used for in-process measurement and first piece inspection - manual measurement relies on the skills of the operator, and the method of moving the workpiece to a coordinate measuring machine for inspection is often not feasible. The benefits of probe detection include:
·Measurement of in-process workpieces through automatic correction of bias values
·Enhance the reliability of unmanned processing
·Adaptive processing, providing process feedback, reducing changes
·Utilizing automatic paranoid updates for first article detection
·Reduce downtime waiting for first article inspection results
Practical application
Applicable working conditions: Complex measurement requirements in batch production, single piece or small batch production.
Before processing: automatic positioning and measurement of workpieces and fixtures, automatic establishment of workpiece coordinate system, and automatic detection of workpiece dimensions.

Workpiece Inspection of LP2 and LP2H CNC Lathes
About LP2 probe
LP2, LP2H, and LP2DD probes can be used in optical, wireless, and hard wired connection systems. Optical/wireless transmission methods are most suitable for on-site modification and optional installation applications.
Optical/wireless transmission methods require OMP40M, OMP60M, RMP40M, or RMP60M. These devices provide various solutions to suit different machine specifications, but each device has similar functions. They turn on and off the probe through the M code, or turn on the probe through the M code and turn off the probe through the built-in timer.
The HSI interface processes signals between the probe and the CNC controller.

LP2 is a standard lathe detection probe. It has a compact appearance and is suitable for measuring workpiece features in limited space. | LP2H is suitable for heavy-duty applications where machine vibrations or the use of heavier measuring needles can cause accidental triggering. | LP2DD includes an improved sealing ring assembly, which is highly suitable for grinding machines and other situations where there is a large amount of chip contamination in the coolant. |
