Working principle

Generally, reverse flow operation is adopted, where liquid flows from top to bottom inside the tower and gas passes from bottom to top. Reverse flow absorption can make the absorption more complete and obtain a greater absorption driving force.

After the gas outside the tower enters the tower, it enters the packing layer through the gas distributor. There is spray liquid from the liquid distribution tray or spray pipe on the packing layer, and a liquid film is formed on the packing. When the gas flows through the gap of the packing, it contacts the liquid film of the packing and undergoes absorption or neutralization reaction. The gas continues to move upward. After several times of absorption or neutralization, the gas is collected by the demister and discharged from the tower through the outlet. The liquid on the liquid film is recovered to the designated location through a liquid collector.

The absorbent and the absorbed gas can be operated in reverse flow or in parallel flow. The rising fluid during counter current operation will cause an increase in the thickness of the liquid film. Under the same gas flow velocity, the fluid resistance during parallel flow is much smaller than that during counter flow. When flowing in parallel, the gas velocity can reach 15-30m/s. However, the absorption driving force is smaller than when flowing in reverse. Currently, most production uses parallel flow operation.
