Robot technology replaces manual labor, greatly improving the efficiency of seed laboratory work!!
application area
Seed DNA extraction
The first step in extracting DNA from seeds is to evenly place single or a certain number of seeds from a batch of seeds into a 96 well plate, and then add grinding balls for micro homogenization. Some laboratories also add buffer solutions for cell lysis or extraction during the crushing process. The Seed Picker system can fully automate the entire process, including adding single or a certain number of seeds to the microplate, adding grinding balls, and adding buffer solution. The entire process is monitored through a visual system or quality balance control system, and a sealing machine can also be integrated to seal the microporous plate. At the same time, it can automatically separate multiple batches of seeds, greatly improving the efficiency of DNA extraction.
Germination rate experiment
In the laboratory, testing the germination rate of seeds is a highly standardized process. Experimenters use the same method to repeatedly place seeds into germination plates, place filter paper in the plates, and evaluate and measure the germination process of seeds. To avoid redundant work, LemnaTec's high-throughput fully automated seed processing system Seed Picker can automatically sort seeds from batches and place them on the filter paper of the germination tray. To ensure quality, the system monitors the entire process through a visual system. We have also developed a linear shelving system that can store germination discs at a fixed temperature, automatically imaging the characteristics of seed germination process such as root and stem growth at regular intervals, and conducting quantitative analysis.
Transfer of small plants
In addition to being applied to seed treatment, Seed Picker can also be used for automated selection of small plants in trays. Seed Picker can automatically remove the protective cover from the tray, and a high-speed industrial grade camera can simultaneously perform real-time and fast coordinate positioning of the sample. It uses a 6-axis robotic arm to move small plants from any direction on the tray and place them in the target position.
Phenotypic research
As a world-renowned developer of phenotype research software, LemnaTec from Germany integrates a large number of other sensors into Seed Picker to analyze the phenotype quantity of seeds or plants, such as shape, size, color, structure, weight, and movement. Studying the effects of herbicides and fungicides on plant phenotypes can provide a complete set of hardware and software solutions.
