HPLC particles with high pore volume do not have sufficient mechanical stability to withstand UPLC ® The high pressure required for separation technology has led to the development of a new silica gel particle technology by Waters Materials scientists, specifically designed to improve mechanical strength and possess suitable morphology to withstand high pressure conditions with good column life and UPLC efficiency. So, 1.8 μ m HSS particles, the first and only 100% silicone particles, were specially designed and tested for UPLC applications, with a pressure resistance of up to 18000psig (1241 bar).
HSS particle technology also has HPLC particle size products (2.5, 3.5, and 5 μ m), corresponding to the XSelect HSS HPLC column family, which ensures seamless transfer of methods between HPLC and UPLC technology platforms.
