Chlorine dioxide - an economical, environmentally friendly, safe and efficient disinfectant
The side effects of chlorine gas and sodium hypochlorite on the disinfection of drinking water and other industrial water have attracted widespread attention. Therefore, the use of chlorine dioxide with extremely low toxic side effects for disinfection has become the mainstream in the field of water treatment today. Chlorine dioxide generators are mainly used for disinfection of drinking water and sewage treatment. Traditional chlorine disinfectants used for drinking water disinfection produce a large amount of halogenated hydrocarbons when treating raw water, including trihalomethanes such as chloroform and organic halides such as dichloroacetonitrile. Chloroform has been confirmed as a carcinogen by the National Cancer Institute in the United States, and chlorinated phenols and dichloroacetonitrile also have carcinogenic or mutagenic effects. Chlorine dioxide is a strong oxidant that does not produce chlorinated products in the oxidation and degradation of organic matter in water, while greatly reducing the generation of trichloromethane. In addition, it can oxidize iron, manganese, magnesium ions, and sulfides in water, without reacting with phenols in water, and will not produce unpleasant odors.
Chlorine dioxide is particularly suitable for disinfecting soft water with high pH values, while chlorine gas can only generate hypochlorite ions with poor disinfection effects in environments with high pH values. The use of chlorine dioxide in sewage treatment, especially in water with severe organic pollution (such as surface water or groundwater containing humic acid), can better demonstrate its superiority. In addition to its disinfection function, chlorine dioxide can also be used to destroy compounds that produce odors and odors, control algae growth in water, eliminate turbidity, improve flocculation, and remove color. Therefore, chlorine dioxide is a promising alternative to chlorine and sodium hypochlorite as a water disinfectant.
Working principle of chlorine dioxide generator:
The chlorine dioxide generator (chemical method) consists of a feeding system, a reaction system, a control system, an absorption system, and a safety system. Hydrochloric acid and sodium chlorate solution are added to the reaction system through a feeding system in a certain proportion, and react at a certain temperature to produce a mixed gas of chlorine dioxide. The gas is absorbed by the absorption system and directly enters the disinfection system. Depending on the water quality (different dosage), it is directly added to various types of water that need to be treated to achieve the synergistic disinfection and oxidation of chlorine dioxide and chlorine gas, thus achieving the purpose of disinfection,
