This feature describes how the full-color printing area can be uniformly displayed in front of the human eye. For "Graininess", high-frequency changes are described by small images (blocks) ranging from 0.042mm (0.0018mm2) to 1.02mm, while also being segmented into more small images (counts) by smaller blocks. Then, the variation between small images within a specific size grid is calculated according to the standard deviation (S.D.). After Zui, these small standard deviations are averaged into a single 'population' number.

Mottling "describes low-frequency patterns, where only a single 1.27mm grid is used to calculate deviation. According to the ISO 13660 standard, the minimum selected area should be 161mm2 (12.7mm x 12.7mm), and the DPM instrument must be installed on a bracket to obtain the patterns of 100 calculation blocks.
