Aanderaa SeaGuard - Observation Chain
It is a comprehensive solution for long-term underwater multi parameter observation, measuring parameters including dissolved oxygen, conductivity (salinity), temperature, ocean currents, pressure (depth), tides, etc. He integrates multiple sensors into a chain like observation system, which can set observation nodes at different water depths and set the parameters to be measured at each node according to user needs. The multiple sensors on the observation chain (power supply and communication) are controlled by the Ocean Guardian controller at one end of the observation chain, and the measurement data is stored in the controller's SD card or transmitted in real time through cables. A set of observation chain system can mount up to 25 AiCaP intelligent sensors.

The Ocean Guardian sensor chain (shown below) is specifically designed to connect to the Ocean Guardian platform, and a single observation chain system can mount up to 25 AiCaP sensors. The end design of the cable allows for easy extension or addition of observation branches, with a maximum length of 300 meters. The position of each observation point in the observation chain is determined by the user.
The flexible configuration of the Ocean Guardian sensor chain makes the observation chain system an ideal measurement tool. A typical application is to perform water column measurements. Intelligent sensors and Ocean Guardian observation chains are integrated into the sensor disk of the Ocean Guardian platform. Simply insert the intelligent sensors and observation chains into the sensor disk of the Ocean Guardian platform, tighten the screws, and then turn on the instrument. All sensors will automatically detect and identify them.
The Ocean Guardian observation chain controller and Andra intelligent sensors are connected through the CANbus protocol (AiCaP) in XML format. This communication protocol has the characteristics of plug and play and power saving. After power on, each sensor connected to the bus will report its performance parameters to the observation chain controller. After summarizing the information, the controller provides optional configuration options to the user based on the observation nodes currently connected to the observation chain for the user to configure. This configuration scheme provides great flexibility for the use and design of different observation elements in the observation chain system.
The Ocean Guardian observation chain controller can store data in a self-contained manner, with data stored on an SD card. At present, the storage capacity of SD cards is 4GB, which is sufficient. The Ocean Guardian observation chain system can communicate and transmit data in real time through Andra real-time data acquisition software, and output data as readable engineering data, which can be easily processed through Seaguard Studio software. Each sensor connected to the observation chain can be marked (such as marking the depth of the sensor observation point for easy recognition by the sensor).
The sensor disk of the Ocean Guardian observation chain controller can accommodate 6 sensors, of which 4 can be analog output (0-5V) sensors. The Ocean Guardian observation chain controller has two battery compartments, which are powered by the built-in battery of the controller for long-term observation. The AiCaP CANbus communication protocol has the characteristic of very low power consumption.
The Ocean Guardian observation chain system can be configured according to different application needs of users, such as online observation chain system, bottom fixed observation system, buoy observation system, long-term/short-term observation system, etc.
